Winter is great at Clamshell Beach! There are plenty of places to explore and many different ways to enjoy the area.
Over 1,200 mile of snowmobile trails are in the area. Great snowmobiling starts just outside your cottage door. We are glad to provide handy the handy links below so you can see all the trails. We will also be glad to give you a trail map upon arrival.

Maybe you prefer the silent sports of cross country skiing or snowshoeing? The Brainerd Lakes Area offers a scenic 240 miles of groomed and non-groomed cross-country ski trails. Thousands of skiers enjoy these trails every winter. There are even lighted trails for night skiing, which means you won’t need to quit just when your skis get warmed up!

The Upgaard Trail Area
From the Brainerd Chamber, travel west on 210 to the junction of 371 and 210. Go north on Hwy 371 approximately 25 miles to Pequot Lakes. Turn on County Rd 16 one mile north of Pequot Lakes. Travel 8.7 miles and look to your right, trails are not well groomed.
Foothills Spider Lake
From the Brainerd Chamber, travel west throught Brainerd on Hwy 210 to the junction of Hwy 371 & 210 to Pine River. Turn west on Hwy 2 to the trails.
From the Brainerd Chamber, travel west on 210 to the junction of 371 and 210. Go north to Pine River. Take left on County Road 2. Travel 10 1/2 miles west on County Road 2. It will be on the north side of the road. Parking and sign will be right there.
From Brainerd Chamber travel east on Hwy. 210 to Hwy 25. Go north on 25. After Merrifield take County Road 6 through Crosslake to Moonlight Bay. Take left on County Road 16. Travel approx. 2 1/2 miles on 16. On right side of road sign saying Silver Peak Road – turn right. 1/4 mile to parking.
From the Brainerd Chamber travel east on 210 to the junction of 210 and 25. Go north on 25. Go through Merrifield. About one mile out of Merrifield the road splits. Stay to the left. The road you will be on is #4. Follow this north all the way to the gates of Breezy Point Resort. Enter the resort and get further information.
The Arboretum trails are rated beginner to moderate. The 12 K of trails are expertly maintained and groomed by the Brainerd Nordic Ski Club. When the snow flies and the trails are able to be groomed the Arboretum lights 5 k from 4:30 pm to 10pm. Many are groomed for dual use while others are designated for either skating or classic.

The French Rapids trails are rated expert only. Challenging 16 K course which affords stunning views of the Mississippi River. The most difficult trails are dual use. Trails are expertly maintained and groomed by the Brainerd Nordic Ski Club and very well marked.
Minnesota ski trail pass required.

From the Brainerd Chamber, travel west through Brainerd on Hwy 210 to the junction of Hwy 371 & 210. Head north on Hwy 371 to Backus. (Approximately 40 miles). From Backus, drive to MN Hwy 87. Head east on 87 for 8 miles. Then 3 miles north on 84. Then 3 miles NW on Co Rd 46. Look for signs.
